Hello everyone, this is Mog. The other day, I enjoyed fireworks at a friend’s house. In Japan, fireworks are typically a summer activity. I recently learned that this is unique to Japan 😉

先日、友達の家で花火をしました。日本では花火は夏にするものです。それが日本独特だと最近知りました😉
On the way back from the fireworks, I heard the sound of bell crickets, signaling the arrival of autumn. Today, I’d like to talk about the coming of autumn.
花火の帰り道、鈴虫の声が聞こえてきて、秋の訪れを知りました。今回は秋の訪れをテーマにお話しますね。
The Sound of Insects
Do you like the sound of insects? In Japan, many people find the sound of autumn insects pleasant. For me, it brings a sense of relief from the summer heat and a feeling of calm. I think I’ve been conscious of the comfort of insect sounds since childhood, watching my parents listen with happy faces, saying, “Listen to the beautiful sound of the insects.”
虫の声は好きですか？
日本では、秋の虫の声を好ましく思う人が多いのです。
私は暑さから解放されたという思いとともに、心が落ち着くのを感じます。
小さい頃から、両親が「きれいな虫の音が聞こえるね」と幸せそうな顔で聞いているのを見て、虫の音の心地よさを意識してきたのだと思います。
Introducing a Children’s Song
Let me introduce a famous children’s song called “Mushi no Koe” (The Voice of Insects).

History of Listening to Insect Sounds
In Japan, the culture of listening to insect sounds dates back to the Nara period (710-794). Even today, many regions hold events for listening to insect sounds.
日本では、虫の音を聴く文化は古くからあり、奈良時代（710-794年）にまでさかのぼります。
今でも多くの地域で虫の音を聴くイベントが行われています。

Autumn-limited sweets often use ingredients like sweet potato, chestnut, mushrooms, and persimmon. Let me introduce a few.
スーパーに秋の食材が並ぶ前に、秋限定の商品が発売されるようになります。日本では季節に応じた限定商品はとても多く、購買意欲をそそられます🤗💕
秋限定のお菓子では、さつまいも、栗、キノコ、柿などが使われる事が多いです。いくつか紹介しますね。
Autumn Fashion
Clothing and makeup sections also start featuring autumn colors. Deep reds, yellows, and browns are representative autumn colors.
Fashionable people around me enjoy seasonal fashion, such as dyeing their hair darker after keeping it light during summer. For example, even if the temperature is the same in autumn and spring, they use different colors and accessories in their fashion.
服やメイクのコーナーでも秋の色を取り扱うようになります。深みのある赤や黄色、ブラウンなどが秋を代表する色ですね。
私の周りのおしゃれな人たちは夏の間に明るくしていた髪の色を暗い色に染め直すなど、季節ごとのファッションを楽しんでいます。例えば、秋と春で気温は同じでも、ファッションに使う色彩や小物を使い分けるのです。
Culture of Enjoying Seasons
The culture of expressing and enjoying the changing seasons has existed for a long time. For example, kimono uses colors, patterns, and materials that match the season.
Japanese culture values the sensitivity to perceive subtle changes in seasons. My kimono teacher taught me:
“It’s stylish to anticipate the season.”
季節の移り変わりを表現し、楽しむ文化は昔からありました。例えば、着物は季節に合わせた色や柄、素材などを使います。
季節の変化を敏感に感じ取る感性を和の文化では大切にします。着物の先生は私にこのように教えてくれました。
「季節を先取りするのが粋なのよ」
For example, while it’s still hot, they use thin summer fabrics, but when they start to feel the hint of autumn, they express it through accessories and patterns. I always looked forward to seeing her kimono combinations.
例えば、まだ暑い時期では夏の薄い生地を使いますが、秋の気配を感じ始めたら、小物や柄などで秋を表現するのだそうです。私は毎回彼女の着物の組み合わせを楽しみにしていました。
Autumn is just around the corner. I’m really looking forward to autumn-specific ingredients and the changing colors of the leaves 🤗
